Fishing for the elusive John Dory. Catch one for yourself with us

John Dory, also known as St Pierre or Peter’s Fish, the dark spot is used to flash an ‘evil eye’ if danger approaches. Its large eyes at the front of the head provide it with binocular vision and depth perception, which are important for predators. The John Dory’s eye on the side of its body also confuses prey, which are scooped up in its big mouth.

Fishing for these fellas is a tricky business as they prefer live bait. With our skilled team on the job however, you’ll find that there are many to be caught while boating in the beautiful Auckland harbour.

John Dory Fish tastes like butter. It is so delicate that it seems to melt in one’s mouth. The John Dory Fish is found in the cool temperate waters all over the world. The Japanese prefer to eat in a winter dish called a “Nabe”
John Dory is best prepared with its skin on. While it is considered a delicacy, and can command a high price in fine-dining restaurants, it also is often used for making that most proasic of dishes — fish and chips. (wikipedia)
