The active fishing grounds of the Auckland harbour make recreational fishing one of the most popular outdoor activities for locals and tourists alike. The Hauraki gulf has an abundant population and extensive range of saltwater fish on offer in New Zealand. Snapper is the species targeted the most on our fishing trips followed closely by Kahawai, Kingfish and Trevally. Gurnard and John Dory are probably the most delicious in my opinion but are are little harder to target.
Various methods are used to catch each different species including conventional baiting and soft baiting techniques. Live bait is usually used when chasing Kingfish and other bigger game fish.
Fish stocks are regulated with a Quota Management System where the size and number of fish able to be caught per fisherman is carefully monitored. Your skipper and crew are well versed in these rules and regulations and if you have any questions please feel free to ask the crew member nearest you.
